This weeks Photo Hunters theme is drink. I have many favorite drinks; Diet Coke, water and red wine are at the top of my list (in that order!). Greg’s list is slightly different than mine. He likes to drink coffee, gin and tonic and Coke (his order depends on the time of day!). Here he is drinking a gin and tonic & watching the NCAA tourney as I am creating this post!

This weeks Photo Hunters theme is/was architecture. A few years ago (Oct. 2003), Greg and I had the pleasure of a few days in California where we marveled at the beautiful architecture of the Crystal Cathedral! In addition to the beautiful architecture we also enjoyed all of the beautiful statues.

This weeks Photo Hunters theme is/was salty. I took a picture of our van convered with salt. Our recent weather created some icy conditions that needed a little salt. I’m glad to say that things are warming up and beginning to melt!

This weeks Photo Hunters theme is soft. Conveniently we are having a snow storm here so I couldn’t help but choose the beautiful white snow for my soft picture. A quick internet search showed that their are many poems that describe snow as soft. Here is one that I thought worked well with my picture.
Falling Snow – author unknown
See the pretty snowflakes
Falling from the sky.
On the walk and housetops
soft and thick they lie.
On the window ledges
On the branches bare:
Now how fast they gather,
Filling all the air.
Look into the garden,
Where the grass was green;
Covered by the snowflakes,
Not a blade is seen.
Now the bare black bushes
All look soft and white,
Every twig is laden -
What a pretty sight!

This weeks Photo Hunters theme is antique. I chose to photograph a picture of a mirror that my mom and dad received for a wedding gift in 1944. The mirror was a gift from my aunt Alvina. I have had the mirror in my home now for about 15 years and I just love it. I thought it would be fun to have my mom in the picture too! Greg and I really enjoy antiques quite a bit. I probably could have taken a picture of something that was actually older than the mirror, but this mirror is one of the most special antiques to me. By the way, I am certainly not calling my mom an antique !!!

This weeks Photo Hunters theme broken is a little sad for me! Elly, a.k.a. wild, was home with dad, sister and brother. Dad was upstairs doing laundy and Clara and Isaac were watching her and a really good movie. Greg hears thump, thump-thump, thump and comes down to see what the strange noise is. He finds Elly (age 2) in the middle of the kitchen table throwing apples from our fruit bowl. As he approaches her, she smiles and my Longaberger bowl goes over the edge and hits the floor! The result, of course, was a broken bowl. When I got home, I had 2 children who were very remorseful greeting me at the door saying “mom, don’t be mad - we’ll buy you a new one”. By the time I found out about the bowl, I had already forgiven them and was thankful that the only thing broken was the bowl.

This weeks Photo Hunters theme took some thought and a trip through my photo archives. Greg finally suggested that the pictures of Isaac, the fish hook, and the worm were pretty gross ! The pictures are actually from our first summer with our camper in 2003. Isaac, age 9, was fishing off the dock and perfecting his casting skills when the nasty worm on his hook decided to attack him! What was the most gross was watching the worm flop around on his leg. Below the close up picture, he is laughing about it in the camper (at least he kept his sense of humor) and next to that he is waiting for the doctor to come in and remove it. I tried a little but realized the barbed end of the hook was too far in for mom to extract, so a trip to a local clinic, a little novcaine and the flopping worm was removed and put to rest!!
