October is Down syndrome Awareness Month!

Get It Down; 31 for 21

NEW YORK - The National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) and the Down syndrome community invite the public to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month this October. There will be special opportunities across the country to learn about Down syndrome and to promote acceptance and inclusion of individuals born with this genetic condition.

“People with Down syndrome, like everyone else, are people first, each with their own unique gifts to contribute to their families, friends and communities,” said NDSS Chief Operating Officer Jon Colman. “Down Syndrome Awareness Month provides a forum for dispelling stereotypes, providing accurate information, and raising awareness of the potential of individuals with Down syndrome.”

Dream big and pray hard….

Gabi’s foundation is is already in service … Unfortunatly, our sweet friend Chelsea was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia on September 26th. Chelsea is a little girl with Down syndrome from our T21 board. In general, children and adolescents with Down’s syndrome have a 10 to 30-fold increased incidence of leukemia (Robison et al. 1984). Every 150th child will eventually develop leukemia. How scary is that? Little Miss Chelsea is absolutely adorable and her family is absolutely adorable. Please pray for Chelsea and her family and follow their story on her blog … Dream Big .

Little Miss Gabi truly has left a legacy of love here on earth. Her parents have now created a foundation:

Gifts of Gabi’s Grace is a non-profit organization designed to help families with children that are confined to the hospital for long periods of time. It is dedicated to the memory of Gabriele Sheridan Acker. (Jan. 12, 2007 ~ Aug. 20, 2007)

She takes my breath away...

In addition to checking out the foundation, please continue to check out their blog for an inspiring view on life. God Bless Gabi!
