Elly is doing well

Thanks so much for all of your thoughts and prayers. Elly came through the procedure fine. I wanted to post earlier, but she had a little fussy period and so I had to wait until now. She is taking a little nap in big brother Jacob’s arms (he popped over from the dorms). They are still watching her sats closely as they are dropping a little low when she sleeps. She has had her first dose of what I’m guessing will be many doses of pain meds.
During surgery they removed her tonsils and the upper 40% of her adenoids. The ENT was conservative on her adenoids because while examinating her when she was sedated he concluded that she may indeed have a small submucosal cleft of the soft palate. (I had been concerned about this due to her having a bifid uvula which is a marker for submucosal cleft) Removing all of the adenoid tissue may result in velopharyngeal incompetency - causing hyper-nasal speech and other intra-oral pressure concerns. So I am a little concerned, but have to trust that the Dr. knew what he was doing and that the benefits of removing some adenoid tissue will be positive for her sleep and general health. Both her adenoids and her tonsils were large.
He also did a sedated ear check and her ear drum perforations are not yet healing. We will schedule a hearing test in the next few weeks to see how her hearing is.
